The re-build of Joseph Gale Elementary School is nearing completion while expansion of Forest Grove High School is in full swing. Both projects are part of a $65.3 million construction bond that voters approved in November 2010.

The district will use the summer months to prepare the new Joseph Gale School for opening next fall. Solar panels have been installed, helping the project meet its goal of achieving a LEED silver rating.

Bond dollars by law can only be for capital improvements, such as new schools and school renovations, and can’t be used to pay for staff or other operating costs.

High School
Construction at Forest Grove High School is underway, with the expanded commons and kitchen to be completed this summer. The new science classroom wing, additional gymnasium and other projects will be completed by summer 2013.
The softball and baseball fields were relocated to the west end of the high school property to make way for construction of the new gymnasium.

The high school auto shop has been repurposed into a multipurpose room. The space has been completely cleaned, painted and equipped with new energy-saving lighting, transforming it into a room that can fill many needs for the high schools. Science classes have already used it for classroom experiments requiring a large space.

Upgrades to the high school agriculture program facilities have been completed. Two existing greenhouses have been renovated, and two new greenhouses were erected. All four have new energy-saving lighting and greenhouse covers that will reduce the cost of heating the structures. The land lab barn also was upgraded with high efficiency lighting and better drainage at the animal care areas.
Harvey Clarke
Harvey Clarke Elementary School’s new cafeteria and kitchen and new bus loop were completed in March.

Echo Shaw
Expansion of Echo Shaw Elementary School’s cafeteria was completed in fall 2011.

Other Projects
Additional operable windows to improve air circulation will be installed at Tom McCall Upper Elementary School and Fern Hill Elementary School after school ends in June.
Installation of security cameras and card key systems at all district schools will continue this summer. The final piece will be to install the cameras and card key systems at Forest Grove High School after construction is finished there in 2013.
